Dr. John Robert “Bob” Wert, 79, of Treasure Lake, PA (formerly of Woburn, MA), passed away on Saturday, September 24th.

He was born on May 4, 1937 in Scranton, PA to John M. Wert and Margaret Wert (Gwinn), who both preceded him in death. At age 15, the family moved to the Boston area where Bob attended Arlington High School, graduating in 1954. He earned his Eagle Scout badge a couple years prior.

After high school, Bob headed to Tufts University in Boston to become a dentist. While here, he met the love of his life, Jacquelin “Jackie” June Tipps. The couple married and made their life together for over fifty years in the Boston area before moving to Pennsylvania in the fall of 2013. Jackie passed away in early 2015.

After graduating from Tufts University in 1961 with a Doctorate of Medicine in Dentistry and a Doctorate of Dental Surgery, Bob set up a general practice office in Woburn, Massachusetts. However, before the office opened to patients, he was drafted as a dentist into the Army where he served as a Captain at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Upon his Army discharge in 1964, Bob returned to Woburn where he took pride in being a dentist, serving the Woburn/Winchester area community for almost 50 years. He was widely recognized for his service, including once being named a Top 10 dentist in the Boston area.

In his downtime, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He also enjoyed carving waterfowl decoys, traveling, playing his guitars, as well as collecting coins and Lionel train pieces. He enjoyed attending church, singing in the choir, and having fellowship with fellow Christians, especially from Grace Chapel in Lexington, MA where he and Jackie attended for many years.

Bob is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Wert of Newton, Ma.   Also surviving are two children, Patricia Brennan (J. Patrick) of Nashua, New Hampshire and James Wert of Treasure Lake, Pennsylvania as well as four grandchildren; John, Robert, Elizabeth, and Jennifer Brennan.

Arrangements for Bob are being coordinated by the Leo Nedza Funeral Home in DuBois, Pennsylvania. A memorial ceremony in the Boston area is in the planning to celebrate the lives of both Bob and Jackie.
