Ernest "Ernie" E. Nichols

Ernest E. Nichols, 85, of East Long Avenue and recently of the DuBois Nursing Home, died, Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the DuBois Nursing Home.  A son of the late David and Bessie (Mathers) Nichols, he was born in Hazen, PA, on January 19, 1932.

On July 17, 2004, Ernie married Jean (Dodican) who survives in DuBois.  Addition survivors include his Step-Children, Rosemary Doane and Earl Drum of DuBois; two brothers, Walter “Wally” Nichols, Windsor, IL and Jim (Diana) Nichols, Winthrop Harbor, IL; and a  sister, Betty (Bill) Sheesley, Windsor, IL.

Besides his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his first wife, Ella (Drum) Nichols and his siblings, Robert, Frank, Bill, Dorothy Liddle and Marge Ross.

Ernie worked many years with his brother Jim on the family farm in Big Run and spent a short time as a security guard in Erie, PA.  A member of the Church of our Savior of DuBois, he enjoyed BINGO and riding his scooter around town looking for discarded pennies and conversation with passersby.  He has lived in Sugar Hill, Erie and many years in Big Run and DuBois.

Visitation for Ernie will be held at the Church of our Savior, DuBois, PA on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at the church with Reverend Melinda Hall.

Interment will take place at the Morningside Cemetery of DuBois.
