Mary Ellen (Naugle) Yost

            Mary Ellen Yost, 88, of DuBois passed away Monday, February 20, 2017 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. She was born November 18, 1928 in Wireton, PA. She was the daughter of the late William Robert & Edith (Pope) Naugle. She was married to Charles Albert Yost, he preceded her in death in 1977.

            Mary Ellen was active in girl scouts in the Sunbury, PA area for 23years serving as a Brownie leader, Assistant Junior Leader, Cadette leader, Assistant Cadette leader, Service unit team member, cookie chairperson, on the Brave Eagle Day camp staff, craft consultant and service unit director. In 1975, she initiated a Brownie buzz-off, and service unit event for Brownies. Each year this event has grown. She has been honored with the Brave Eagle certificate of tanks in 1977; the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Award and Hemlock Council certificate of appreciation in 1978. Mary Ellen was also awarded the Saint Ann’s award in 1980 which is the highest award in the scouting. She also had many special talents for crafts which she passed them onto the girls in scouting. She served for 10 years in Sandy Township district as a voting volunteer. Mary Ellen did some knitting, but her love for crouching which she did make beautiful afghans, she would pass them on to so many loved ones. She quilted also and made all of her children and grandchildren quilts. Everything that Mary Ellen made she gave away with love. We will all remember her with the items that she has made us. She was also a cook for Baileys Drive-In of DuBois for 20yrs.

            Mary Ellen is survived by four children Charlene (Forrest) Aeppli of New Columbia, Mary Ann (Jodey) Bruce of Selinsgrove, Richard Allen Yost of Milton and Susan (Steve) Rice of Selinsgrove, five sisters Jean Nupp of Erie, Shirley Mackin of Arkansas, Sarah Burns of DuBois, Katherine Thomas of Ohio and Louise Ross of DuBois, two brothers Jack Naugle of Treasure Lake and Ernie Naugle of Falls Creek, eleven grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

            Mary Ellen was also preceded in death by a son Charles Yost, a brother Tom Naugle and a sister-in-law Theresa Naugle.

            Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 3pm until 6pm and Friday from 10am until 11am at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home in DuBois. Services will follow at the funeral home on Friday at 11am with Pastor Dean & Penny Smith officiating. Burial will take place in Morningside Cemetery.

            In lieu of flowers family suggest donations to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Assoc.
