Thomas A. Reifer

            Thomas A. Reifer, 83, of Sykesville, pa passed away Friday, February 10, 2017. He was born September 23, 1933 in Houtzdale, PA, son of the late William & Madeline (Grey) Reifer. He enlisted in the United States Air Force at age 17. He served during the Korean War and was stationed at Misawa Airbase in Northern Japan. Later he resided in Seattle, WA, Williamsport, PA, DuBois, PA and Sykesville, PA.

            He raised four children and prized the notion of self-reliance and Independence. He was resourceful and hardworking. He loved to garden and travel. He made a point to take his family on summer road trips in the family station wagon to places like California, Washington, Florida and Maine. He had a fun sense of adventure.

            He was a wonderful gardener and from that garden he would can and preserve the food that he grew. Pickles, tomatoes and peppers were his specialties. He made great pizza and tasty sauerkraut.

            He was a long time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the VFW. He had a practical yet spiritual approach to life. He was a proud yet humble American.

            He was preceded in death by his son Matthew in 2010. Tom is survived by his son Tom of Hawaii, daughter Kristen of Falls Creek, PA and Son Jim from Wellsboro, PA and their families.

            A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Memorial considerations may be in the form of, but not limited to, gardening, wood splitting, canning food for your family, traveling and living a joyful life.
