Violet E. (Shaffer) Kozdron

Violet E. Shaffer Kozdron, age 90, died Saturday morning January 28, 2017 at Christ The King Manor.

Born August 24, 1926 in Curwensville, PA, the first child of Celia Iona Hoover Shaffer and Lawrence Orvin Shaffer. She graduated from Curwensville HS in 1944, and moved to Pittsburgh to work for the war effort with a maternal uncle and two aunts. Violet married Joseph S. Kozdron of Lawrenceville Pittsburgh in 1947. They lived on the North side of Pittsburgh, Shadyside and then in 1948, Wilkinsburg until moving to Gibsonia in 1956, and then to Rockton in 2000.

Violet loved to read. She enjoyed cribbage, scrabble, and card playing with her family, especially pinochle with her sisters. She also enjoyed bowling and was secretary and treasurer for 10 years of her league: the Breakfast Bowlers in Gibsonia. Some of her most memorable times were those of vacation traveling (27 summers) in Canada with her mother and sisters and she always drove. She loved to drive, and after moving to Rockton, would explore little used roads. Vi was a good listener, and she valued kindness above all other character traits.

Violet gave birth to four children, three of who survive: Rosemarie Kozdron, Joseph S. Kozdron, Jr., Janice E. Kozdron Kohler, all of Rockton. Grandchildren: Kara Kozdron and sons Hayden and Heath Karoleski of Gibsonia, PA; Courtney Kohler of Pittsburgh; Lindsey Kozdron Moody of Bentonville, Arkansas; Chad Kohler and son Cameron of Dubois. She is also survived by sisters: Mary JoAnn Daly and Barbara L. Shaffer of Rockton; B. Jane Blackburn of Kermoor; Karen L. Snyder of North Tonawanda, NY. Immediate family predeceasing her: daughter Donna Jean Kozdron; siblings Donna Jean Shaffer, Vernon C. Shaffer, L. Loraine Shaffer Snyder, Lawrence A. Shaffer; her parents, Sol and Ione, and husband, Joe.
