Bernard Louis Sweka, CMSgt, USAF, RET., Age 67 passed away at his home on Monday, July 11, 2022, with loving family near. Bernard was born on January 15, 1955 in Dubois, Pennsylvania, to Henry F and Ethel (Polifko) Sweka. He graduated from Dubois Area Schools class of 1972. Bernard enlisted in the United States Air Force in September 1973 and retired in February 2004 after honorably serving for 30 years. He was a Veteran of the Gulf War receiving a Purple Heart after the Khobar Towers Bombing in June 25, 1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Ethel, Sister Laverne Gilbert and the love of his Life of 36 years Linda (Pylene) Curtis. He is survived by Linda’s daughter Paetai Miller and Husband Tracy, Paito0n Waites and husband Jerome and grandchildren Jacob and Jessica Waites. A brother Gabriel and Wife Karen and numerous nephews and nieces.
Following the visitation services in Florida on July 15th, at McLaughlin Mortuary; Bernard returned home for services with his Pennsylvania family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, from 1-3pm and 5-7pm at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home in Sykesville.
A Parastas will be prayed on Wednesday at 4pm at the funeral home.
Military Honors will be accorded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard on Thursday, July 21, at 9am at the funeral home.
A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, July 21, at 10am at the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church with Father Vasyl Banyk as celebrant.
