Leonona Crooks-Hanes Obituary

Leona Mae (Benninger) Crooks-Hanes, 100, of DuBois, resident of the DuBois Nursing Home, the DuBois Village, formerly of Falls Creek, entered the Kingdom of God on December 23, 2018. She was the wife of the late Floyd A. Hanes and Michael D. Crooks; loving mother of Carolyn Walko-Christopher, Robert (Margot) Kryk, Janice (Robert) Nicely, Doreen Hanes and Carl (Kim) Hanes; beloved grandmother to Karen Christopher, Ken (Helen) Masters, Jeff (Janelle) Masters, Laurie (Brent) Walck, Floyd Hanes, Richard Hanes and Aaron (Heather) Bourne; beloved great-grandmother to Daniel, Stephen, Aaron & Melissa Masters, Jessica (Cody) Morris, Michael Masters-Holler, Emma Rose Bourne & Olivia Bourne; beloved great-great grandmother to Evan Masters Aria & Luke Morris, and Jaxon Davis; sister of Evelyn Houck, many nieces and nephews, all of whom she cherished; she also enjoyed celebrating five generations.

In addition, Leona has been waiting for her fifth great-great grandchild, Daniel Morris, to arrive in March of 2019.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard & Gertrude (Chittester) Benninger, 4 brothers Clarence, LeRoy, Melvin and Glenn, a sister Jane Wickman and special companion Larry Supienko.

Leona retired from the University of Rochester, NY, Strong Memorial Hospital, Emergency Department as a Unit Coordinator. She loved socializing at any and all events. Always outgoing and happy, her happiest times in life was time spent with family and friends; she enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards and long walks. Leona was elected Queen of the DuBois Village shared with King Larry Supienlo, Also Ambassador for the DuBois Village; she was a member of the Lakeside United Methodist Church.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend. Her kind spirit will live in the hearts and minds of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Leona will be sadly missed by her children and all whose lives she touched throughout her life. Until we meet again Mom, our love and memory remains alive in us forever and always.

A Private interment will be held at Beechwoods Cemetery in Falls Creek.
