Edna Ruth (Long) Rafferty

Edna Ruth (Long) Rafferty of Sykesville went home to be with the Lord, Sunday; Oct.31 surrounded by family at Christ the King Manor. She was born June 10, 1921 to the late Florentine and Sarah (Repine) Long in Barnesboro, PA. She married James P. Rafferty October 16, 1940. He preceded her in death December 28. 2000.

She was a member of ABVM Church in Sykesville and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years and was a member of The Rosary Society. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, flowers, putting together puzzles, bird watching and playing cards, dice and dominos with family and Friends.

She loved the Lord who was her strength and always had her rosary in hand praying tor everybody.

She is survived by 4 daughters Barbara (Frank) Sonnie of Sykesville. Marjorie (Clark) Stough of Peoria AZ, Sharon (Brad) Wayland of Swansea SC, and Rosemary (Peter) Marx of Sonora CA, 5 sons Thomas Rafferty of Stump Creek. Samuel Rafferty, Christ the King Manor, Richard (Deb) Rafferty and David (Linda) Rafferty of Brookville, and John (Deb) Rafferty of Swansea SC, 29 Grandchildren, 49 Great Grandchildren and 23 Great-Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by 2 sons James F and Edward P Rafferty and 3 grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family of 4 sisters and 1 brother.

Visiting will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 from 4pm until 7pm and Wednesday, November 3, 2021 from 9am until 10:30am at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home in Sykesville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at ABVM Catholic Church in Sykesville at 11am with Fr. Bill Barron as celebrant. Burial will follow in ABVM Church Cemetery.
