Everett O. Updyke, Jr. “Opie,” 76, DuBois, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024 at his residence. He was born April 5, 1948 in DuBois, The son of the late Everett & Rita (Wilson) Updyke, Sr. He married Kathy (Rauch) Updyke, she preceded him in death.
Everett is survived by a son Justin (Desiree) Updyke of Connecticut, a brother Douglas Updyke of Penfield and six grandchildren.
After graduating from DAHS., Everett joined the US Marines where he had served with the 1ST 8 INCH HOWITZER BATTERY in Khe Sanh in 1967 during the Vietnam War and had been recognized as one of the last Marines to be evacuated in 1968. After returning from the war, he worked as a press operator at McDowell Manufacturing. He was a life member of the VFW and Sandy Club as well as a member of the Sykesville Eagles, DuBois American Legion, Big O, I.P.&S., Pulaski, DAV and the VFW Honor Guard.
In addition to his parents and wife, Everett was also preceded in death by a daughter Jennifer Updyke.
There will be no public visitation. A Celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024, from 12pm until 3pm at the James J. Patterson V.F.W. in DuBois. Military Honors will be accorded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard. Online condolences can be made at www.nedzafamilyfuneralhomes.com .
