Gerald E. “Jerry” Myers, 77, of Rural Avenue, DuBois, PA, died April 5, 2016 at Penn Highlands-DuBois. He was born, March 26, 1939, to the late Harry J. and Acie (Read) Myers, and married Shirley A. Smith, who survives in DuBois.
Besides his wife, Jerry is survived by six children; Gerald E. “Jerry, Jr.” Myers of Massachusetts, Michael J. Myers of Massachusetts, Kimberly (Fred) Raphael of Massachusetts, Vincent Asalone of California, Ginger (Gene) Stewart of Indiana and Linda Asalone of New Jersey; and six grandchildren.
Jerry is the last surviving member of his immediate family, being predeceased by his parents; two Brothers, Harry T. and Robert A. Myers; four sisters, Betty Bloom, Loraine Kohler, Doris Crytser and Donna “Jean” Kirkpatrick.
A graduate of Sandy Township High School and an Army Veteran of the Vietnam era, Jerry worked natural gas and oil fields for 12 years, trucking for 20 years and retired after fifteen years in highway construction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing guitar and singing country and bluegrass music and bluegrass festivals.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016, from 4 – 7 p.m. and also on Saturday, from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Leo Nedza Funeral Home of DuBois. Funeral services will follow the Saturday visitation at the funeral home with Reverend Kenneth Sherwood; and the DuBois Area Honor Guard delivering military honors. Interment will take place in Morningside Cemetery.
