Richard C. Barr

Richard C. Barr, 78, Curwensville, passed away January 18, 2016 at DuBois Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. Born May 13, 1937 in Luthersburg, PA, son of the late Michael and Lola (Shaffer) Barr. He was married to R. Shirley Barr on January 2, 1960; they were married for 54 years before her passing on November 20, 2014.

            Richard is survived by a son: Richard C. Barr, Jr., of Curwensville, PA; a daughter: Rachel A. Shively and husband Dion C. Shively of Greensburg, PA; a grandson: Ian J. Shively of Greensburg, PA; a sister-in-law: Catherine Barr of Kenmore, NY and 12 nieces and nephews.

            Richard was a 1954 graduate of Curwensville Area High School and a 1959 graduate of Penn State University. He worked for Chrysler Corp. as an accountant in the 60’s and 70’s in Detroit and Toledo. He later became a Comptroller for various coal companies including: Adobe, Bradford and Reddinger Coal Companies. He loved driving, so after retirement he drove for Pyramid Health Care.

            Richard also enjoyed hunting, gun collecting, reloading, fishing and taking long walks in the woods to enjoy nature. He was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers: Charles “Fred” Barr and Norman L. Barr and sister-in-law: Esther B. Barr.
