Rick Salamone "Poppy" Obituary

Rick “Poppy” Salamone

Richard E. Salamone passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024 with his wife and daughter by his side at his home in DuBois, PA.

Born on August 19, 1947 in Bronx, NY, Rick was the son of the late Charles and Lorraine (Peters) Salamone. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 57 years Judith Ann Paris, who he married on June 24, 1967 in Bergenfield, NJ.

Rick is also survived by his daughter, Joanne L. Sconzo, son-in-law Chris, his two grandchildren Andréas and Sophia, all of whom he loved so much. In addition, he is survived by his Aunt Evelyn Marnell (NJ), Aunt Velma Grose (OK), and many other loving extended family members.

Rick was a graduate of Bergenfield High School in NJ. He worked for the US Postal Service for 35 years, beginning as a letter carrier in NJ. When he and Judith relocated to Breckenridge, CO in the early 90s, Rick worked at the front desk of the post office. After he retired from the Postal Service, he landed his dream job at the Breckenridge Ski Resort. The ski slopes of Colorado were Rick’s happy place. He would often say, “The Rocky Mountains are calling me!” He and Judith enjoyed many years of skiing, biking and making memories with their dear friends in Colorado.

Over the years Rick made lifelong friends wherever he went. His quick wit and sense of humor always had everyone laughing. He loved playing poker and golfing with his buddies, listening to music and going to concerts. He was a sports fanatic and a devout Colorado Rockies and NJ Jets fan. He especially enjoyed playing and beating Joanne in Scrabble.

Rick was so excited to become a grandfather and from then on was known as “Poppy.”  He was and always will be loved deeply by those whose lives he touched. He leaves us with so many wonderful memories, and in true Poppy style, many of them have us laughing hysterically.

A private celebration of life service will be held by his family. In-lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation at michaeljfox.org to honor Rick’s long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Services provided by Leo Nedza Funeral Home.
