William Varacallo, Sr. Obituary

William J. (Bill) Varacallo Sr. 92, entered eternal rest at his home in Sykesville on February 3, 2023.  Born on February 1st, 1931, he was the son of the late Dominic and Tomasina (Molinaro) Varacallo, and was a dedicated son, husband, father, and grandfather.  Bill was married to Anna (Marge) Sherosky on October 17, 1953, after 67 years of marriage she proceeded him in death on November 6th, 2020.  Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, singing, swimming at the local YMCA, and gardening.  He was active in his community as past president of ISDA, participant in Memorial Day services, Senior Center events, and as roles of mayor and justice of the peace of Sykesville.  Bill also willingly served his country in the Army Reserves.  He was a lifelong member of the A.B.V.M Parish of Sykesville and was instrumental in the church’s music ministry throughout his life. Bill retired from Rockwell Manufacturing, and was an avid sports fan of the Pirates, Steelers, and Penn State.  In his younger years, he was involved in little league and umpired all levels of baseball for 45 years.  Living his entire life in Sykesville close to family, he is survived by his children William (Diane) Varacallo Jr., Steven Varacallo, Susan Varacallo-Lamper and Judy (Michael Schoedler) Meme.  Grandchildren: Matthew (Andrea) Varacallo, Megan (Trenton) Kunes, Tomasina, Mitchell, and Joshua Lamper, Brianna and Gabrielle Meme. Great grandchildren: Matt (MJ) and Avery Varacallo, Emilyn and Cullen Kunes and sister in laws Eva, and Patty Varacallo along with many nieces and nephews.

Bill was the last surviving member of his family and was proceeded in death by siblings Joseph (Cappy), Albert Varacallo, Jennie Kosko, Mary Ferut, nephew Albert Varacallo Jr. and niece Lisa Kosko.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11, from 9:30am until 10am at the Assumption of the B.V.M. Church in Sykesville. A mass of Christian burial will follow at the church with Father Benjamin Daghir. as celebrant. Military Honors will be accorded by the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard.  Memorial donations can be made to the A.B.V.M Cemetery Fund, The Varacallo Foundation, Sykesville Ambulance Services, or your local Hospice.  Arrangements will be in the care of Leo Nedza Funeral Home of Sykesville.
